About This Technique
Tsubame Gaeshi (燕返), or the swallow counter, is a specialized foot technique (ashi-waza) in Judo used primarily as a direct counter-attack (kaeshi-waza) against forward foot sweeps like Deashi Harai. Named after the swift, darting flight of a swallow, it involves evading an incoming foot sweep and instantly counter-sweeping the attacker's foot as they overextend.
