About This Technique
Osoto Gari (大外刈), or the major outer reap, is one of the most powerful and fundamental foot techniques (ashi-waza) in Judo. It involves driving the opponent backward onto a single leg, stepping deep beside them, and forcefully reaping their weighted leg out from behind to drive them onto the mat.
