About This Technique
Kuchiki Taoshi (朽木倒), or the dead tree drop, is a hand technique (te-waza) in Judo where you snatch a single leg of the opponent with one hand while driving their upper body backward with the other—knocking them over like a decaying tree.
IJF Competition Ban: Because modern International Judo Federation (IJF) rules ban direct hand grabs on the legs below the belt, Kuchiki Taoshi cannot be used in official Judo competitions. However, it remains a recognized Kodokan throw and a staple single-leg takedown in wrestling, BJJ, and MMA.
