About This Technique

Ippon Seoi-nage (一本背負投), or the one-arm shoulder throw, is one of the most iconic and powerful hand techniques (te-waza) in Judo. Unlike Morote Seoi-nage (which maintains grips on both lapel and sleeve), Ippon Seoi-nage requires releasing the lapel grip to trap the opponent's arm tightly inside your armpit.
