Kesa-gatame
袈裟固Scarf hold
About This Technique
Kesa Gatame (袈裟固), or the scarf hold, is a fundamental pinning technique (osaekomi-waza) in Judo rather than a throw (nage-waza). Named after the diagonal sash (kesa) worn by Buddhist monks, it involves sitting alongside a prone opponent, encircling their neck, and trapping their arm to pin their shoulders flat against the mat.
