About This Technique
Ushiro Goshi (後腰), or the rear hip throw, is a foundational hip technique (koshi-waza) in Judo used exclusively as a counter-attack (kaeshi-waza). When an opponent turns in to launch a hip throw, you block their entry from behind, lift them off the mat, and drop or drive them backward onto their back.
