Kani-basami
蟹挟Crab or scissors throw
About This Technique
Kani Basami (蟹挟), or the scissors throw (literally "crab scissors"), is a classic sacrifice technique (sutemi-waza) in Judo where the attacker leaps sideways toward the opponent and scissor-kicks their legs—placing one leg across the front of the waist/thighs and the other behind the knees—to clip their legs out and slam them backward onto the mat.
Banned in Competition (Kinshi-waza) Kani Basami was permanently banned from modern IJF Judo competition in 1980.
