Launceston University Judo Club

Located at the UniGym on the University of Tasmania’s Newnham Campus, Launceston University Judo Club serves as Northern Tasmania’s primary university-affiliated martial arts training hub. Affiliated with Judo Tasmania and Judo Australia, the club operates in partnership with the university while remaining fully open to the broader public, providing structured instruction in standing throws and groundwork for beginners through to experienced practitioners.

The club strongly emphasizes accessibility, inclusivity, and the foundational judo principle of mutual welfare and benefit (jita-kyoei), structuring training so members of all physical builds and experience levels can practice safely together. By offering trial memberships and affordable training pathways within a dedicated campus facility, it functions as a welcoming community space for student athletes and local practitioners alike.
