Porirua Judo Academy

Located in the heart of Porirua City Centre in the Wellington region of New Zealand, Porirua Judo Academy provides structured training for all age groups, ranging from Peewee (ages 4–5) and juniors to adults. Led by experienced coaches, including Head Coach Matthew MacDiarmid, the club functions as a regional hub offering comprehensive instruction in fundamental movement, throwing, grappling, self-defense, and competition pathways.

A standout aspect of the academy is its emphasis on earned achievement, utilizing a progress-tracking grading system where belt ranks are awarded through demonstrated technical growth, attitude, and effort rather than simple attendance. Beyond athletic training, the club prioritizes a community-oriented environment built around traditional judo values like respect, discipline, and long-term personal development.
